Would you like a volunteering role engaging, supporting and empowering parents in Stockport?

New Beginnings works with parents who are in the child protection system. Our project is about empowering and supporting parents within their community. We are a relationship based practice which means that good relationships are what help parents make the transitions they want to make. To reach their goals however we need volunteers who can spare the time and have the commitment to help families stay together.
As a New Beginnings volunteer you could provide support to families in a number of ways depending on your skill set, previous experience and passion.
What does volunteering for New Beginnings involve?
Possible duties include:​

Ensuring that the voices of parents in the child protection system are sought, heard and represented appropriately.

Supporting the team to deliver informal education activities e.g. leisure, sporting and art activities.

Working as part of a team to facilitate the drop in centre with peer mentors.

Supporting parents and children within the community to stay together as a family

You have excellent communication skills.

Support within your role

One to one supervision every 6-8 weeks

You will be kept up to date on your training, including safeguarding

Up to date DBS checks while you are volunteering with us

You will be offered support on any personal issues raised as a result of the volunteering

Help and support if you want to transition into or return to employed work.

What is the criteria?
Due to the nature of the role and the parents you will be supporting we ask that all volunteers are aged 25 years or over. All volunteers will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
